Moldova faces agricultural crisis as drought worsens

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has appealed to the European Union for financial assistance to support farmers affected by severe drought conditions in Moldova this year.

Minister Vladimir Bolea made the announcement in a statement to Agora.md.

According to the minister, over 97,000 hectares of farmland across the country have been impacted by the natural disasters. In the southern region, more than 3,000 hectares of wheat have suffered 80% damage due to the lack of rainfall.

Bolea further noted that drought conditions have been severe in most parts of the country, with high temperatures disrupting corn pollination in many northern regions. The lack of rainfall has significantly reduced wheat yields in the southern region.
