Daniel Vodă about the state of emergency: “The government is managing the challenges generated by Russia’s destabilizing tactics”

The government has requested the establishment of a state of emergency due to a complex situation that poses a risk of a humanitarian crisis on the left bank of the Nistru. This situation arises from the actions of the Russian Federation and uncertainties regarding gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. Government spokesman Daniel Vodă provided these clarifications after some opposition MPs expressed concerns about the state of emergency declared by the Legislative. He emphasized that the legislation of the Republic of Moldova recognizes the state of emergency as a necessary tool for managing crises.

“The statements made by some opposition MPs are truly surprising. Even though they participated in Parliament sessions where the establishment of a state of emergency was explicitly requested, they had the opportunity to study the draft text during these sessions. They could also ask questions and listen to the Prime Minister's speech. Nevertheless, they continue to suggest that there is an issue with the state of emergency declared by the Legislative", says Daniel Vodă.

The government discussed this matter both in its own sessions and in Parliament. The Prime Minister clearly explained the reasoning behind this decision, according to the spokesperson for the Executive. Vodă argues that the actual problem lies in the complicated context and humanitarian risks, not in a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the purpose of declaring a state of emergency.

“MPs, including those from the opposition who voted against it, supported this measure with a majority vote to protect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and to provide the necessary tools for the authorities to act,” said Daniel Vodă.

We remind you that the establishment of a state of emergency has led to debates and accusations between the ruling party and opposition representatives. The Bloc of Communists and Socialists accuses the government of mismanaging the energy situation and failing to prepare the country with energy resources for the entire cold season since summer, leading to a decline in the economy. Vlad Batrîncea, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament on behalf of the PSRM, asserts that a state of emergency is unnecessary because, under this pretext, certain decisions that should have been made in advance are only being superficially addressed.
