"100 years since the Union of Bessarabia with Romania" is the most expensive commemorative coin in the Republic of Moldova. According to the National Bank, the price for one of the 300 coins exceeds 38,000 lei.
Despite the steep price, which exceeds 38,000 lei, the coin "100 years of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania" has a face value of only 1,000 lei. It is made of gold and weighs just over 31 grams. For the first time, the coin was put into circulation in 2018.
The top of the most expensive coins is completed by the one dedicated to the "20th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency in the Republic of Moldova", the price of which exceeds 17,600 lei. This one is also made of gold and weighs 15 grams. It is from the series "Historical events" and was put into circulation in 2013, its face value being only 200 lei.
Among the most expensive gold coins is the one dedicated to the poet Adrian Păunescu. It costs almost 9,000 lei. It is made of gold and weighs 7.8 grams. It is part of the series "The Alley of Classics in the Public Garden "Stefan cel Mare cel Mare cel Sfânt" and was put into circulation in 2013. The face value is 100 lei.
At the opposite pole of the ranking of the most expensive coins is the set of 1, 2, 5 and 10 lei, which can be bought for 135 lei. This is followed by the coin dedicated to the writer Ion Creanga, which costs 337 lei, and the coin entitled "Alexandru Plămădeală", which costs two lei less.
Those wishing to buy them can do so at licensed banks in the country, which can charge up to three percent more than the price set by the National Bank of Moldova.
